Joel Buckner is a change agent, passionate singer, and a pioneer who seeks to fulfill his purpose in life.

As a youth growing up in Columbus, Ohio, Joel began to hone his God-given music talents.  While under the mentorship of great ministers and songwriters, Joel gained exposure to what would be a lifelong journey with music.  By age 13, Joel became youth choir and praise team director for Bible Way Church.

During the 1990s, Joel developed more in his musical talents singing in the Columbus Boy Choir. Gospel groups such as Commissioned and The Winans were some of his biggest musical influences.  Likewise, he found inspiration in vocalists such as Carl Thomas and Donnie Hathaway. By studying these talented male singers, he was able to develop his signature vocal style.

In 1998 Joel moved to Dayton, Ohio and served on the worship team at Revival Center Ministries International under the direction of Sharon Conyers. While serving on the worship team, he met Tonya Baker, for whom he also sang background vocals for 13 years. Their life-changing influence helped him to become the worship leader and songwriter he is known as today.

In 2007, Joel took a leap of faith and moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he was lead to join Oasis Church.  While at Oasis Church, Joel led worship and received mentoring from lead Pastor, Danny Chambers. Later, in 2011, Joel moved to Miami, Florida, where he served as the worship leader for South Coast Church.  Currently, Joel serves as a worship leader at the National Community Church in Washington, DC, under the leadership of worship director, Kurtis Parks.

In March 2009 Joel released his debut album, I Will Live, featuring songs such as “We Come To Worship You”, “Draw Me”, and the title track “I Will Live”. In writing this collection, he blended his life experiences with his neo soul/acoustic style of music.  Alongside this project, his songwriting arsenal includes hits such as “Burn It All Down” by Lexi, “We Desire More” by Benita Washington, and “Arise” by San Franklin.  Joel perfects his gift as a worship leader and songwriter by constantly surrounding himself with other thriving artists as a source of inspiration.

The same passion that Joel has for music can also be seen in his passion for mentoring youth  as a means to rebuild and change communities. In the same way, he invests time in mentoring other worship leaders to help them actualize and develop their personal gifting and talents. No matter if Joel is leading worship, writing songs, or mentoring youth, he’s always sharing the message of God’s conquering love and incomparable joy!

In his leisure time, he can be found reading, watching a good movie, spending time with loved ones, doing missions,  and thinking of his next adventure.
